Did you know Shipston is the best place to live in the Midlands?

Apparently so, according to the Sunday Times – and in fact, it’s such a great place to live that it has held that crown for two years running! Shipston-on-Stour is a humble Warwickshire market town that’s close to the Cotswolds and just 10 miles south of Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon. And we’re proud to call it our home here at Shipston Lodge Nursing Home.

With all sorts of festivals and events put on in the town throughout the year, there’s always something to get involved in, and we’re delighted to be part of this close-knit community. The Wool Fair has been resurrected and takes place every May, and the town stages a two-week Proms festival every summer, featuring all sorts of events including jazz, blues, folk, classical and rock concerts, open-mic nights and a grand finale on a big stage in the town square.

The town has proper pubs, lovely restaurants, a wide variety of great little independent shops and cafés, some beautiful picnic spots by the river, and it has a generally nice atmosphere. We’re biased, of course, but we think it’s a great place to live. And having its very own nursing home simply adds to its offering.

If you’re looking for expert nursing care in Shipston-on-Stour, get in touch to find out more about Shipston Lodge Nursing Home and how we can help you.

Shipston Lodge - proud to support Shipston Proms 2019

Here at Shipston Lodge, we’re delighted to be sponsoring Shipston Proms 2019! Taking place for two weeks in June, it’s a fantastic community event organised by a dedicated committee that sees local businesses and individuals pull together to make musical magic happen. We couldn’t be happier to be part of it.

It’s so, so important to back local events and as Shipston-on-Stour’s very own annual music festival, we thought it was the ideal opportunity to show our support.

Tickets are now on sale for three fantastic events: the Shipston Proms Launch Night on Friday 14th June, One Night of MJ; the Shipston Proms Dance Party on Friday 21st June and; Stratford Rock Choir on Sunday 23rd June. There is also a ‘Pubs & Cafés Music Trail’ taking place on Saturday 22nd June, with a record number of venues taking part - will you be giving it a go?

The two-week event culminates in the Last Night of the Proms on Saturday 29th June, which is a completely FREE event for the community!

Support local with Shipston Lodge and get involved in this year’s Shipston Proms. We really hope to see you there at what promises to be a fantastic event if past years are anything to go by! Whether you decide to volunteer, perform for the crowds or come along and have some fun, thank you from everyone here at Shipston Lodge for helping this brilliant community event happen once again.

To stay in the loop with everything going on as part of Shipston Proms 2019, including upcoming announcements, be sure to follow the event on FacebookTwitter and Instagram and keep checking the website too!

Life at Shipston Lodge - our five favourite days out under 30 minutes away

Although we are probably a tiny little bit biased, we love the location of Shipston Lodge. The charming market town of Shipston-on-Stour is nestled in the beautiful scenery of South Warwickshire, ideal for trips to the North Cotswolds and Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon. Shipston even made it into the Times’ list of the Best Places to Live in the UK 2019!

In case you need any more convincing, let us tell you all about all the things to see and do here; in addition to the various independent establishments including teashops, butchers, bakers, a tailor and more right here on our doorstep - and not forgetting our markets and festivals - there’s all sorts of places of interest just a stone’s throw from Shipston.

Whether you fancy a day out in Chipping Campden, Broadway, Moreton-in-Marsh or elsewhere, Shipston is surrounded by beautiful towns and villages. Better yet, we’re close to the M40 so it’s easy to venture further afield - Birmingham, London and Oxford are all within reach.

We’ve whittled down all sorts of lovely local destinations for days out to our favourite five, all within half an hour’s drive of this traditional English market town.

• Whichford Pottery - Since 1976, the village of Whichford has been home to a family-run pottery selling lovely handmade flowerpots of the highest quality. Under seven miles away from Shipston, it’s well worth a visit - and there’s a great little café there too.

• Batsford Arboretum - Just outside Moreton-in-Marsh in the village of Batsford, you’ll find this wonderful arboretum, which is home to the country’s largest private collection of trees and shrubs. There’s interest in the gardens all year round, and there’s also a garden centre and café.

• Compton Verney - Set in 120 acres of parkland including its own lake, Compton Verney is unique - this award-winning art gallery featuring world-class exhibitions is a wonderful place to visit. And it’s only nine miles away from Shipston-on-Stour.

• British Motor Museum - Just up the Fosse Way from Shipston by the M40 motorway, you’ll find the British Motor Museum, formed to preserve the stories and collections of Britain’s motoring heritage. Housing the world’s largest collection of historic British cars, it’s most certainly worth a trip!

• Hidcote - Created by Major Lawrence Johnston, talented American horticulturalist, Hidcote is a must-see Arts and Crafts garden that’s separated into ‘rooms’ and offers year-round interest. Just seven miles away, it takes only 15 minutes to drive to this gem from Shipston Lodge.

Which one will you be visiting first? And have you been to any of these lovely places before? Whether you’re considering moving in here at Shipston Lodge or a friend or family member of yours calls Shipston Lodge their home, this fantastic location with so many great attractions nearby makes living here extra-special – why not get in touch today to find out more?
